Expedition Itinerary
Accommodation: Viking Village
On arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel. Check in and relax and we all will meet for dinner at a local restaurant.
Accommodation: Fosshotel Reykholt or similar
Today we will have an early morning start and will be introduced to your expedition machines. And also, we will have a detailed expedition briefing before we start our drive. With the power of the special modified expedition vehicle, we depart from Reykjavik, heading out of the city to explore the Borgarfjörður area. The glacier is a great area to test our machine and your skills of driving on ice!
Accommodation: Hveravellir huts or similar
After breakfast, we start our drive heading towards the Langjökull Glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland. Then we will drive North from Þursaborgir and take the route that will take us to Hveravellir. We have arranged for packed lunch so that we can spend as much time driving and enjoying outdoor Iceland. Hveravellir is a great area to see the magical Northern lights dancing in the sky – if the natural conditions are right.
Accommodation: Golden Circle area
In the morning, we will pack up our gear and leave this mountain paradise. If conditions allow us we will visit Hveravellir geothermal area and have a swim in a natural hot-spring! The track is challenging so it will take some time to get back to the main road. After we have conquered the Kjölur mountain tracks we will visit some interesting sights of the Golden circle such as the Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir area (the hot-spring Strokkur spouts water many meters up in the air), the historic Thingvellir National Park (home of ancient Icelandic Viking parliament that is registered in UNESCO world heritage site) and an indescribable nature with the biggest lake in Iceland. Then we arrive at our accommodation late evening.
Accommodation:Hella /Hvolsvöllur area
After breakfast we drive along the south coast passing small Icelandic farms all the way to the foot of the world famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier. If conditions allow, we take a gravel road and drive between two glaciers on the rutted tracks and crossing a few unbridged glacier rivers before we arrive at Þórsmörk valley at the foot of Mýrdalsjökull glacier and Katla volcano. It is impossible to reach the valley on a regular vehicle; and hence we are there with you to teach you how to cross the rivers on these special super jeeps and why we need to deflate the tires of the truck on the way. In Þórsmörk valley we make stops at Gígjökull outlet glacier and Stakkholtsgjá canyon to explore its hidden waterfall before returning to the main road reaching our overnight location in time for dinner.
Accommodation:Fosshótel Reykjavík or similar
Drive along the South Coast to discover the beautiful sights of Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you can walk behind the cascading water, experiencing the waterfall from an interesting angle. Further attractions not to be missed today are Skógafoss waterfall, Reynisfjara black sand beach and Dyrhólaey peninsula. We should reach Reykjavík in the late afternoon.
Accommodation:NA
Depending on the time of your flight, you will have the airport transfers arranged. Have a safe flight back home.
