Expedition Itinerary

Accommodation: Parasol Blanc Hotel or similar

Your first impression will be Luang Prabang, a quiet UNESCO Heritage Site considered by many as the center of Lao culture. Nestled in a mountain valley at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan rivers, the city offers a fascinating glimpse into the Buddhist religious practices and traditional lifestyles of hill-tribe groups in the northern region of Laos. We request you to arrive at Luang Prabnag by noon today so that you can be ready for the expedition briefing in theevening! Though some of our clients do arrive a day or two earlier to have sufficient time to explore this beautiful cultural town.

Accommodation: Parasol Blanc Hotel or similar
Distance: 170 km
Terrain: Tarmac and some off-road

Today you will get introduced to your expedition machine before we start motoring journey. We have planned some off-roading around the suburb of Luang Prabang and along Mekong as we take an adventurous route to the famed Kuang Si waterfall. The jungle and dense woods surrounding the falls are perfect for exploring on foot and the turquoise pools are perfect for a swim (subject to permissions).

Accommodation: Vansana Plain of Jars
Distance: 266 km
Terrain: Mostly Tarmac

An early start will take us from Luang Prabang to Phonsavanh in northeastern Laos. It’s a gateway to the Plain of Jars sites, named for their clusters of giant, millennia-old sandstone jars, which have unclear origins. We will be stopping at a local school in Phou Dam Village, and if you would like to contribute anything, you may carry some books and stationery to donate to this school. We continue our drive along the valley.

Accommodation: Spring River Resort or similar
Distance: 370 km
Terrain: Sealed roads and bit of dirt road

We visit the Plain of jars site which features 250 jars weighing from 600 kg to one ton. The Plain of Jars is considered the most distinctive and enigmatic of all Laos attractions. We continue our drive via Muang Khoun as we visit the enduring Buddha statue with the now-melancholy face (thanks to its missing eye and scarred right cheek and lip) is highly revered by worshippers.

Morning, embark on a motorized canoe to enjoy the navigation through the Konglor cave. Discover the 7 km long “Tham Lot Kong lor” limestone cave through which the Nam Hin Bun flows, which is one of the natural wonders of Laos. The sometimes 30m wide river and up to 100m high is of a pristine beauty, featuring sandy beaches and various remarkable rock formations. Enjoy rest of the day exploring the natural sites.

Accommodation: Hotel Riveria or similar
Distance: 250 km

Discover Khammoun by the loop, this Central Laos province has long been a place of travel and of sanctuary. A land of rugged karst mountains, it was home to an ancient civilization in the 6th-8th Centuries, and became the refuge of a succession of ethnic groups fleeing northern invasions during the 19th century. Driving through the limestone landscape and lake before reaching Thakek, the surviving Franco-Chinese architecture, mixed with newer structures, is similar to that found in Vientiane and Savannakhet.

Accommodation: Hotel Champasak Grand or similar
Distance: 380 km

A long day of driving will take us through some historical places like Sikhottabong Stupa, bones of Lord Buddha are said to be consecrated here. It is a contemporary of That Inhang in Savannakhet and That Phanom, built in Thailand under the Sikhottabong Empire. We then continue our drive to Pakse, another 245 km on sealed roads.

Accommodation: Hotel Champasak Grand or similar
Distance: 150 km | Terrain: Off-Road

Another day of adventure as we drive today to Paksong and Bolaven Plateau. The landscape of the Bolaven Plateau is characterized by coffee and tea plantations and dramatic waterfalls surrounded by lush vegetation. Various ethnic groups inhabit the area. Drive through coffee farm and then maybe a swim in the waterfall! Today being the last day of our expedition, we will have a special farewell dinner to cherish all the great memories we had on this adventurous

Accommodation: NA
