In July 2025, Nomadic Road returned to the Kalahari for a Rendezvous edition: a 2,750-kilometre overland expedition across one of the world's largest semi-arid ecosystems, spanning Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. The convoy worked through dirt roads, sand stretches and dry riverbeds in the heart of the southern African dry season, when the air is cold at night, the skies are hard blue by day, and wildlife concentrates around the few remaining water sources. The 2025 Rendezvous brought together overlanders from several countries, several Nomadic Road repeat travellers, and a fresh cohort of first-timers. Days started early, often with frost on the tents, and the convoy logged long driving hours through landscapes that look empty on a map but rarely feel empty on the ground. Kudu, gemsbok and the occasional jackal appeared alongside the track. Pan crossings stretched out for kilometres of white. Among the recurring moments participants describe: deflating tyres for a long sand section, getting one of the 4x4s bogged and having the group dig it out, evenings around the fire with too much food and stories from earlier expeditions. The Rendezvous format is built for that energy, with several edition-specific stops and meet-ups along the way. By the end of the 14-day journey, the July 2025 Kalahari Rendezvous had delivered a full crossing of one of Africa's most demanding overland regions, with the driving, distance and silence that defines a Nomadic Road expedition in this part of the continent. The July 2025 Rendezvous reinforced what makes this route a recurring favourite: the combination of demanding driving, classic southern African landscapes, and the social energy of a larger overland convoy on the move together.
