The Rendezvous Summer Mongolia expedition, run in August 2025, was Nomadic Road's gathering-edition version of its signature summer overland trip. Over 2,000 kilometres of mostly dirt roads, a larger-than-usual convoy worked across Mongolia's central and eastern regions in the warmest, brightest, most open weeks of the year. The Rendezvous format brings together a mix of returning travellers, fresh participants and Nomadic Road team members for a trip that doubles as a meet-up in the field. Mongolia in August is the country at its most generous. The steppe is green, the rivers are full enough to matter but not full enough to block routes for long, and the long days stretch the driving window past nine in the evening. Outside Ulaanbaatar, the convoy followed dirt tracks across open valleys, climbed onto small passes for views, and dropped into camp sites that almost nobody else would find. Days mixed real driving with long lunches, photo stops, and several unplanned detours when something on the horizon was clearly worth the diversion. Several evenings were spent with nomadic families, sharing tea, dried curd and the occasional shot of vodka. The group's mix of nationalities, languages and travel histories made the camp conversations one of the standout parts of the trip. By the time the convoy reached the end of the 2,000-kilometre route, the August 2025 Rendezvous Summer Mongolia expedition had delivered exactly what the format promises: a serious overland route, run with a larger and more social group, in the most welcoming version of Mongolia available.
